[edit]Plot

The story dates back to four centuries, to be precise, 1609 AD. There is a kingdom called Udaygadh in Rajasthan ruled by a king (Saratbabu). Mitravinda (Kajal Agarwal) is his only daughter. Ranadev Bhalla (Dev Gill) is her brother-in-law. Kala Bhairava (Ram Charan Tej) is a warrior who trains the army of the kingdom. He is also the personal caretaker of the princess. Ranadev eyes Mitravinda and want to bequeath the kingdom by marrying her. But the princess loses her heart to Bhairava. In order to win her hand, both Ranadev and Bhairava take part in a contest and Bhairava emerges the winner. Ranadev turns traitor and joins hands with Sher Khan. He invades the kingdom and kills the king. Later, Ranadev and Sherkhan reach the place where Bhairava and Mitravinda were offering prayers to Lord Siva. Sher Khan challenges Bhairava to save his life from his men. Bhairava courageously attacks and kills 100 soldiers. Sher Khan bows his head to Bhairava and accepts defeat. But Ranadev kills Mitravinda and Bhairava. Just before death, Bhairava kills Ranadev too.
All these people are some 400 years later, i.e., in 2009. Harsha (Ramcharan) is a stunt lover and ekes out his living by taking part in bike races and stunts. When he touches Indu's hand, he feels an electric connection. He starts looking for her as the touch reminds him of something. Indu's father fights a legal battle for Udaygadh kingdom as it was his ancestral property. His brother-in-law enjoys the property illegally. The latter son Ranadhir (Dev Gill) is spell-bound by Indu s beauty and goes to their home and promises to return the entire property with the view of marrying Indu. Ranadhir's guru Ghora (Rao Ramesh) tells him that he just cannot win Indu as long as Harsha is alive. On learning that Indu s father accepted her love towards Harsha, Ranadhir kills him and implicates Harsha in the murder. Later, Ranadhir takes Indu away to Udayagiri. Though Harsha tries to explain the truth to Indu, she doesn't believe him. In the process, Harsha drops from the helicopter and falls in a pond only to be saved by Solomon (Srihari). Now it was Harsha's turn to prove his innocence and remind her of their reincarnation.

IMDb7.9/10 stars[12]
The film opened to generally positive reviews. The Times Of India gave a three star rating says "Ram Charan Tej showcases his horse-riding and dancing skills to perfection, while Kaajal known for simple lover girl roles transforms into a determined princess and truly impresses. Actor Dev Gil is adequate as the ruthless villain. Comedian Sunil fails to evoke laughs. Unlike his previous action-centric films, director Rajamouli dishes a heart-touching love story in a lavish canvas convincingly. Also kudos for the way he has visualised and presented the film".[13]
Radhika Rajamani from Rediff rated with three stars explains "Ram Charan seems to be a chip of the old block when it comes to dancing. For, he is very flexible and dances well like his dad. He's got a lot to do in this film from horse riding to sword fighting to singing and dancing. He's done them all pretty well though one felt that he needs to hone his skills of acting further particularly in expressing emotions. Also, one feels he need to have more josh to be a warrior -- at times one felt he was rather subdued. Kajal Agarwal was quite a surprise package. She was sweet and charming and looked like an 'ethereal' princess. She carries off both the roles fairly well. Srihari was at his usual best performing both roles (later he's born as Solomon-the fisherman). The song with all the technicians making their appearance at the end is innovative and Rajamouli should be appreciated for this. Rajamouli has packaged Magadheera well as a mainstream film. Have a look at it for its technical brilliance".[14]
NDTV who praised the lead performances and technical aspects of the film says "Ramcharan has excelled in all the departments and perfectly matched expectations. His macho image suited the warrior s character well. He showed ease in action scenes as well as dances. He has improved himself a lot since his first film and the director moulded the character very well. Kajal Agarwal is also an asset to the film. She is very apt for the character of the princess. Besides filling the glamour slot, she has proven that given a chance, she too can give an excellent performance. The other notable character is of Bollywood artiste Dev Gill. He was able to show the cruelty and crookedness in his eyes and facial expressions. Hats off to the director for his work in coordinating all the 24 crafts in the film industry and it was his dream to bring a Telugu film on the lines of a Hollywood film. His ability to pen the screenplay could be seen in every frame and every scene of the film".[15]
Sify Movies gave a four star rating noted " Cinematography plays a vital role with capturing the historic ambience of castles, romantic sojourns into scintillating locales and also into the risky stunts. To replicate the mood of 400 years ago is not an ordinary thing and required much artwork. In this, the venture succeeded. Stunts by Peter Haynes rule the roost. The film also has its visual grandeur. Kajal Agarwal looks stunningly beautiful in perfect costumes - both as a princess and a modern girl. She dominates the romantic scenes, which is a major advantage to the film. Dev Gil who plays the villain - pre and post reincarnation - is the perfect choice by director Rajamouli to bring the much-needed villainy onscreen.[16]
According to Suresh Krishnamoorthy from The Hindu stated "Rajamouli, who has delivered a half-a-dozen hits and is touted as one of the most successful directors of the decade in Telugu cinema, excels in story-telling. The way he has used the flashback as a flip switch, going back and forth and taking the viewer through a 400-year journey in a jiffy is interesting. As for the histrionics or acting skills of the lead pair,Ram Charan Tej is mostly wooden-faced and could have shown a wee bit more of expression. In the dialogue delivery too, he could have improved. The magic created by cinematographer Senthil Kumar and the way he makes the camera move is fantastic. The vast expanse of the Thar desert in Rajasthan has been beautifully-showcased but what one does not understand is the colour on the screen. The sand is almost milky-bluish white!".[17]
