City of God Malayalam Movie Review 2011-04-23 09:04:41 'City of God',a Lijo Jose Pellissery film scripted by Babu Janardhanan tells the story of the life of Tamil migrant workers in Kerala and a team of land mafia and criminals.'City of God' is being produced by Anitha Anil Mathew under the banner of Mary Matha Creations. The key male roles are: Prithviraj plays Jyothilal, an educated man who turns to crime to make a living. Indrajith's character is that of Swarnavel, a Tamil labourer. Rajeev Govinda Pillai, a fresh face plays the character Sony, who was close friend of Prithviraj. Arun Narayan, popular VJ of Surya TV as Shameen, a land mafia party. And the female roles consists: Shwetha Menon plays Viji Punnose a wealthy woman, whose husband gets murdered. While Rima Kallingal is Sooryaprabha, an actor who is into some disturbed relationships, Parvathi is Marathakam, a Tamil woman who flees her village to escape from her abusive husband. The movie planned in a different format than the usual is being filmed with a hand-held camera to get a realistic feel. The complicated lives of three women are also a part of the narratives. The narrative begins with an accident. The interesting part is the way the story moves back and forth making the viewer sit in rapt attention to understand the going ons on the screen. Prithviraj, Indrajith, Rajeev, Arun Narayan looks intense and has the spontaneity required for such a role. Rima Kallingal was was impeccable, Parvathy and Shwetha Menon were decent and did their best as required. Other actors in the supporting cast like Rohini, Anil Murali, Jagadeesh had use their optimum capabilities to perform. 'City of God' has its heart at the right place and the credit for it should mainly go to its director,Lijo Jose Pellisserry whose signature is there all along. Babu Janardhanan's script never feels pretentious as the dialogues used here are real and natural. And the Editing section is handled by Manoj, who made the movie variety with his extra treatments. Songs by Prasanth is just apt for the theme. "Nee akaleyano" song is already clicked before the release itself. Sujith Vasudev's visuals and Renganaath Ravee's sound effects are among the best things about the film. But it's quite normal that you tend to forget the flaws and appreciate the best things about CITY OF GOD, due to its 'Good Effort'. Posted By metromatinee.com

City of God, A different attempt 2011-04-25 Those who want to to see a different Malayalam movie which resembles 'Ayutha Ezhuthu' directed by Manirathanam also a superb englich movie called 'Vantage Point' which got best direction award, i.e shows a same scene different angles and connecting the characters, this movie may not liked by audience who looks for family subject as well as commercial mass entertainer .Technical sides like Camera,Bankground score, action sequences are really good, editing is superb, all actors did well especially prthivi, reema, indrajit, parvathi and Rohini - a great attempt by Lijo
